The Conservative party have used the slogan 'strong and stable' at every turn in the election campaign. This riposte appeared on posters over London and was created by the artist Jeremy Deller. Linguistically interesting for the use of two distinct registers. The 'my arse' also references a catchphrase from the sitcom 'The Royle Family' set in the north of England so may also be a reference to the north/south, upper/working class divide in the U.K.

This cafe is in what was a predominantly Irish area of London, Kilburn, indexed here by the four-leafed clover. The menu used to be very traditional Irish fare but now more 'mainland' European, as are the staff.

Kua 'aina is Hawaiian neaning something like 'back country' and refers to the preservers of the authentic Hawaiian culture. Interesting it should be used as the name of a Hamburger bar. Allegedly much loved by Barack Obama.

Kilburn High Road was once mainly Irish but now is very multicultural.
