Hunt, Edmunds & Co., originally from Banbury, placed circular brewery plaques on their tied pubs during the 19th and early 20th centuries . When they were acquired by Bass, Mitchells & Butlers in the 1960s, the plaques, (especially the slate-grey ones) remained on premises, including in Exeter.
